the 1975's self-titled debut

the 1975, honestly I really didn't get it the first time I heard their name. Fucking hell thank you so much, Google!, for a meaningful introduction. They're basically brand new, unless you really count their 4 EPs over the past year. I'd like to say that they're actually artists-slash-newborn pop singers. well, i shouldn't have visited iTunes at the first place and bought the album impulsively  *sighs*

album debut the 1975 ini sama persis kaya makan sebungkus microwave popcorn dengan ratusan rasa di dalamnya. enak banget sampe ga bisa berhenti makannya tapi di tengah-tengah itu semua yang makan jadi bingung buat nentuin rasa apa yang paling jadi favoritnya. good thing I found my favorite flavor (of the tracks), which was Indie Pop. you can find it in 'Chocolate' and 'Settle Down' (my favorite track!).

pusing?. banget!. dilempar dari genre indie hits yang kental dengan permainan gitar yang berat sampe ke disco funk-buat joget terus diseret ke ballad solo piano , menurut kamu?. tapi album ini dihibur dengan lirik-lirik epic sarcastic yang ditulis sama Matt Healy (vocal&guitar). lirik yang sarat sarkasme ini ga susah dicerna karena banyak mengandung literal scenes. di track 'Sex' misalnya, and I'm not trying to stop you love/ but if we can't do anything we might as well as fuck. kemampuan menulis lirik dan bikin lagu yang bagusnya masih belum apa-apa dibandingin sama Alex Turner, tapi open minded sama pendatang baru juga ga ada salahnya kan?. actually it is as playful and sarcastic as Alex's.

sejak saya memutuskan beli album mereka, resmi juga status 'ke-kini-an' saya di mata dunia. ditarik 5 tahun ke belakang, belum pernah rasanya saya dengerin musik yang dihasilkan dari bocah kinyis-kinyis, bubble gum face, dan rambut ala Skrillex (just because I never listened to any Skrillex's songs. oh, was that really a song?). selalu ada yang pertama kali untuk segalanya. aye?.

notable tracks: Chocolate, The City, & Sex.

Demikian Aku Mengenangmu

ini bisa jadi hanya sekedar postingan lewat. memori yang menyapa harus dijamu, dengan segera.

************************************************************************************************************

waktu yang mengundangmu
ke duniaku
dalam cahaya senja
percakapan hujan

hingga aku lupa
aku yang disana

waktu yang menjagamu
bertahan disini
bernafas di airmata
bahagia di dalamnya

hingga aku lupa
kau mungkin pergi
waktuku mencurimu
dari hidupmu

waktu yang membimbingku
mencarimu lagi
sampai nanti sampai aku
menemukanmu

Bruno Mars - Unorthodox Jukebox

I can't stop giggling all day today. My best-yet-so-old pal Dimas, introduced me to Unorthodox Jukebox. What's that?. It's Bruno Mars' new album. For one and two seconds,  I was like..."really,D?. Bruno Mars??. Me???." I never judged Bruno is bad or terrible or anything worse. It's just...I am not his devoted listeners. I admitted he's good. He brings something new, colourful yet he is a talented guy. I listened his songs for once or twice but that's it. I didn't buy his first album while all my friends couldn't stop babbling of how his songs were so sweet and mellow and blablabla. I was not one of his fans!.

Until today, on our way looking for my lost wallet-slash-planner, D passed his earphone to me and made me listen to a song I've never heard before. I like the lyrics and so I told him that. He was smiling like an ignorant boy. I was listening to the voice and trying to recognize the singer. When I surprised to find out and turned to him, he was burst into divine laugh. Yeah, dude...you got me.

Compared to Doo-Wops & HooligansUnorthodox Jukebox is way brilliant and grown up. Why?. Because Bruno put synthy '80s influence in it. I must say this album is a complete package. We got pop, soul, rock, funk, reggae and not to mention Hip Hop and R&B. Literally jukebox, rite?.

The first song that I listen was Locked Out of Heaven. It refresh my memory of Message In The Bottle by The Police, though I can feel a bit of Michael Jackson's Beat It vibe. Does it matter if it's very similar?. NO. Hahaha. I praised Mars' smooth vocals in this song. Enuff said. Let's move forward to Treasure. This one is actually my favourite song on this album. When I listen to this song, I compared the album with Wham! or Phoenix or even Prince, which knows that a flirt beats a bleat any day.  Oh, there's a lot of swearing and sex stuffs here. His huge Prince-inspired slow jam Gorilla leads the way, as you might imagine, with a f-wording and mf-wording and “You and me baby makin’ love like gorillas.” This may not be your cup of herbal tea, but that doesn’t really matter to Bruno Mars this time around.

All in all, this is a truly accomplished pop album. It's fresh even with some vulgar lyrical content but it's a fair trade off. Good job, Bruno!

=w=

CRAZY, CRAZY, CRAZY. Ha! I remember what I said the first time I listened this song. The bass line is beyond awesome. Time goes by but whenever I listen to it, 4:43 - 7:00 still gives me the goosebumps that never goes away minutes after the song ended.

So...I guess I'll see you guys on January 8?  ;)

play it fuckin' loud!

Glen Hansard - Rhythm and Repose

I am super excited when my long-lost best friend Dimas talked about Glen Hansard first solo album. Well, it might surprise many to know that 'Rhythm and Repose' is his debut as a solo artist. I thought it would have happened earlier. 'Once', a modern-day drama musical movie starring Glen and Marketa Irglova was a huge success. Hansard and Irglova's song 'Falling Slowly' received a 2007 Oscar for Best Original song and the soundtrack also received Grammy nomination.

It is a complete surrender to the deep intense emotions through the power in his voice managed to meet with glorious lyrics that he wrote. It feels like he has a few gears to move up in the opening tracks, ‘You Will Become’, ‘Maybe Not Tonight’, and ‘Talking with the Wolves’. This can be frustrating when you just want him to let loose and showcase the strength in his upper range. I found out the pacing, restraint, and overbearing band became the 'UH-HUH-NOT-COOL' factor from this album.

All of the songs are phenomenal but my favorites are High Hope, Bird of Sorrow and Love Don't Leave Me Waiting. The country infused ‘High Hope’ opens up the flood gates as Glen begins to grow more adventurous vocally. In 'Bird of Sorrow', he starts to utilise the power in his upper range and his usual passionate intensity develops.

Put simply, 'Rhythm and Repose' is as easy-listening wonderland and it's safe to say this album is brilliant. That said it was obviously a measured decision to engage in such introspective performances, made all the more clear by the title ‘Rhythm and Repose’. The reposed nature was completely intentional and completely successful.
